Cleaning Tips We Actually Use in Buffalo Homes
The cleaning tips and shortcuts our crew actually uses on real Buffalo and WNY homes — not generic advice, just what works.

We get asked a lot — usually right after we finish a job — what the secret is. Honestly, there isn't one big trick. It's mostly just knowing which shortcuts actually work and which ones are a waste of time. Here's what our crew relies on, adjusted for the kind of homes we see all over Buffalo, West Seneca, Hamburg, Orchard Park, and Cheektowaga.
Salt and slush get inside faster than you think. If you've lived here through a WNY winter, you know the drill — salt stains creeping across entryway floors from October through April. Keep a stiff-bristle mat outside every door people actually use, not just the front one, and shake it out weekly. A mix of warm water and a splash of white vinegar cuts through dried salt film on tile and hardwood without leaving a residue.
Older homes need a gentler touch. A lot of the houses we clean around here — especially in South Buffalo and West Seneca — have original hardwood or older finishes that don't hold up well to harsh chemicals. Skip the ammonia-based sprays on wood floors and trim; a damp microfiber cloth and a little dish soap goes further and won't dull the finish over time.
Clean top to bottom, always. Dust falls — if you vacuum first and dust ceiling fans or shelves after, you're just re-dirtying the floor. Start high (fans, light fixtures, the tops of cabinets) and work your way down to counters, then floors last.
The 10-minute reset beats the weekend deep clean. Most of our recurring clients aren't doing one big clean a week — they're doing small daily resets. Wipe kitchen counters and the bathroom sink every night, and Saturday's cleaning takes a fraction of the time. It's the difference between maintaining and starting over.
When it's more than a wipe-down. Grease buildup, pet hair worked into carpet, grout that's gone from white to gray — that's deep-clean territory, not a Tuesday-night ten minutes. That's exactly what we're for. If you're already doing the basics and the house still feels behind, that usually means it's time for a real deep clean, not that you're doing something wrong.
