Standard Cleaning vs. Deep Cleaning: How to Know Which One You Actually Need

Not sure if you need a standard cleaning or a deep clean? Here's the honest breakdown - what's included in each, what it costs, and how to choose.

This is one of the most common questions we get from new clients, and it's a fair one - the two services sound similar but they're really not the same job. Here's the honest breakdown.

Standard (Recurring) Cleaning - around $40/hour. This is maintenance cleaning for a home that's already in generally good shape. It covers the surfaces and areas that get dirty week to week: kitchens (counters, stovetop, sink, outside of appliances, floors), bathrooms (toilets, showers/tubs, sinks, mirrors, floors), living areas and bedrooms (dusting, vacuuming, mopping, trash removal, making beds on request), and general tidying and surface wipe-downs throughout. Standard cleaning is built to happen on a repeating schedule - weekly, biweekly, or monthly - so the home never has a chance to fall behind. Most of our recurring clients are on this plan.

Deep Cleaning - around $50/hour. Deep cleaning goes into everything a standard clean doesn't touch. It's built for a home that hasn't had this level of attention in a while - or as a periodic reset even for homes on a regular schedule. It includes everything in a standard clean, plus: baseboards, door frames, and window sills; inside the microwave and other easily-reached appliance interiors; behind and under furniture where it's safe to move; detailed bathroom and kitchen degreasing/grime removal; light fixtures, ceiling fans, and vents; and cabinet fronts and interior edges. If it's been more than a few months since your last real cleaning, or you're getting ready for a big event, a new baby, or just want to reset before starting recurring service, deep cleaning is the right starting point.

A simple way to decide: ask yourself, "Is this about keeping up, or catching up?" If your home is generally clean and you just want it to stay that way, standard cleaning is built for that. If there's real buildup - grease, dust in places that haven't been touched in months, grime in corners - start with a deep clean, then switch to standard cleaning to maintain it.

A lot of our clients actually do both: one deep clean to reset the house, then ongoing standard cleanings to keep it that way. That combination tends to be the best value over time, since it avoids ever needing another deep clean.
